Braised red cabbage
Ingredients/Components
- butter or margarine - 1 Tbsp
- brown sugar - 1 Tbsp
- cider vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- warm water - 1 c
- chopped onion - 1 c
- salt optional - 1/2 tsp
- black pepper - 1/8 tsp
- small head red cabbage, cored and thinly sliced - 1 item
- Golden Delicious apple, peeled, cored and thinly sliced - 1 item
How to make braised red cabbage:
Melt butter or margarine in a large skillet. Add onion. Saute for 1 minute. Add cabbage and apple and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Combine salt, pepper, brown sugar, water and vinegar. Add to cabbage mixture and cook, covered, over low heat for 30 minutes. Serve hot or cold. Makes 6 servings.Recipe categories: Low protein, Side dish, Vegetables.
