Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- cinnamon - 1/4 tsp
- milk - 1/2 c
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- butter - 1/2 c
- water - 2 c
- nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- shortening - 3/4 c
- small apples - 6 item
How to make apple dumplings:
Combine sugar, water, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cook 5 minutes or until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat; add butter. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Mix with dry ingredients the shortening, then add milk. Roll out dough until 1/4 inch thick; cut into 6 squares. Place sliced apples in square. Sprinkle with additional sugar, spices and a little flour; dot with butter. Bring corners of pastry and pinch edges together firmly. Place in well greased pan and pour sauce over all. Bake at 375° for 45 minutes, basting often.Red cinnamon candies may be used for color and flavoring in the sauce.
