Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 2 tsp
  • milk - 2 c
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • flour - 4 c
  • cocoa - 10 Tbsp
  • baking soda - 3 tsp
  • shortening - 1 c
  • Crisco - 12 Tbsp
  • sticks butter - 2 item

How to make whoopie pies:

For Filling:1 c. milk1 c. shortening2 c. sugar4 Tbsp. flour2 sticks butter2 tsp. vanilla For cake, cream together Crisco, sugar, cocoa, eggs and vanilla. In a separate bowl, sift flour, salt and baking soda. Add dry ingredients, alternating with 2 cups of milk to cream mixture. Drop onto well-greased cookie sheet, one spoonful per cake. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes.

For Filling: Cook milk and flour to smooth paste. Cream together shortening, butter and sugar. Add paste and vanilla. Whip with mixer to creamy white. Spread generously on half of the cooled cakes. Top with the other cake halves. Makes 36.
