Ingredients/Components

  • sugar
  • cream cheese
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • chopped pecans - 1 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • water - 1 oz
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • baking powder
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • vinegar - 1 tsp
  • all-purpose flour
  • margarine - 1/2 c
  • red food coloring - 1 oz
  • dry cocoa - 4 Tbsp
  • confectioners powdered sugar - 16 oz

How to make red velvet cake:

Frosting:8 oz. cream cheese1/2 c. margarine16 oz. confectioners powdered sugar1 tsp. vanilla1 c. chopped pecans Beat margarine, sugar and eggs in a large mixing bowl. Add food coloring, water and vanilla. Stir well. Sift cocoa, flour, salt and baking powder. Add to red mixture alternately with buttermilk. Mix well after each addition. Mix soda and vinegar together. Add last to cake batter. Mix well again. Pour into three 9-inch greased and floured cake pans. Bake in preheated 350° oven for 20 minutes until done. Cool completely.

Frosting: Cream the cream cheese and margarine until fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla and stir well. Fold in pecans. Frost layers, top and sides.
