Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 tsp
- brown sugar - 1 lb
- baking soda - 2 tsp
- hot water - 1/2 c
- Crisco shortening - 1 lb
- plain flour approximately - 4 lb
- small box cinnamon - 1 item
- plus 2 c - 1 pt
- small box cloves - 1 item
How to make moravian cookies:
In large bowl, mix together flour, sugar and shortening. Make a hole in center. Pour in molasses. Add spices, salt and soda. Blend well. Add hot water. (Add more flour if necessary to form a soft dough.) (These ingredients should all be mixed by hand.) Refrigerate overnight before baking. Roll out a fist sized ball of dough on floured surface. (Should roll very thin.) Cut with assorted cutters. Bake at 325° for approximately 3 to 5 minutes.Recipe categories: Desserts, Cookie and brownie, Rolled cookies.
