Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- cinnamon - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour
- soda
- raisins - 1/2 c
- hot water - 1 c
- cloves - 1/2 tsp
- dark molasses - 1 c
- egg, beaten - 1 item
- lard or shortening - 1/4 c
How to make molasses cake:
Cream shortening and sugar; then add eggs. Next add dry ingredients with molasses and hot water. Bake in 7 x 10 x 2-inch pan at 350° for 45 minutes.This recipe dates back before 1900 when you were told to fire up the wood stove and keep the oven heat even. It has been updated for modern stoves.
