sugar - 2 c
eggs - 6 item
vanilla - 2 tsp
milk - 2 c
margarine or butter - 1 lb
all-purpose flour - 4 c
shredded coconut - 14 oz
sifted powdered sugar - 3 c
butter or margarine, softened - 2 c
eggs, well beaten - 10 item
box white raisins - 1 item
pecans, cut up - 2 qt
self-rising flour, sifted
dark raisins, dredged in a little flour - 1 lb
box chopped dates, dredged in a little flour - 1 item
rind of 1 grated lemon and juice
Add eggs, one at a time, then flour, then raisins, dates, then lemon rind and juice
plastic cup candied cherries, cut in half - 1 item
plastic cup pineapple, cut in small pieces - 1 item

How to make lemon layer cake:

Cream the butter or margarine and sugar well. Add eggs, one at a time, then flour, then raisins, dates, then lemon rind and juice. Bake in four 9-inch cake pans, greased and lined with paper. Bake at 325° for 25 to 30 minutes.Lemon Butter Frosting:1/3 c. butter or margarine, softened3 c. sifted powdered sugar rind of 1 grated lemon and juice4 1/2 c. self-rising flour, sifted1 lb. margarine or butter2 1/2 c. sugar2 c. milk10 eggs, well beaten2 tsp. vanilla1 plastic cup candied cherries, cut in half1 plastic cup pineapple, cut in small pieces14 oz. shredded coconut1 box white raisins2 qt. pecans, cut up Cream the butter until fluffy. Add sugar and beat, then eggs. Add some flour to some milk gradually until you have used all of both. Add vanilla and beat. Add fruit and nuts. Put raisins in a bowl and sprinkle with a little flour; work them around in it so they won't all go to the bottom of the cake. This will make 2 tube pans. Line pans with a double layer of brown bag on the bottom and sides, then layer with wax paper on top of that. Bake at 250° for 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until a straw comes out clean.
