English muffins
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 Tbsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 3 3
- warm water
- soft shortening - 2 Tbsp
- cornmeal - 1 item
- dry yeast - 1 pkg
How to make english muffins:
In large bowl, combine 1 1/4 cups flour, salt, sugar and yeast; mix well. Add the warm water and shortening. Beat 3 minutes at medium speed on mixer. By hand, gradually add remaining flour to make a firm dough. Knead on floured board until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place in greased bowl; cover and let rise until double. Punch down dough and roll out on lightly sprinkled cornmeal board. Cut into 3 or 4-inch circles. Cover; let rise until dough, about 30 minutes. Bake on lightly oiled griddle or frypan at 325° for about 8 minutes on each side, until golden brown. Makes 12 to 14.Recipe categories: Breads, Breakfast, Yeast breads.
