Ingredients/Components

• sugar - 1 c
• vanilla - 1 tsp
• salt - 1/2 tsp
• chopped nuts - 1/2 c
• flour
• butter - 2 Tbsp
• chopped dates - 1 c
• baking powder - 1 tsp
• baking soda - 1 tsp
• boiling water - 1 c
• shortening - 1/4 c
• cream - 5 Tbsp
• egg, beaten - 1 item
• Set aside

How to make date cake:

Pour boiling water over dates and baking soda. Set aside. Combine remaining ingredients. Add dates to combined ingredients. Pour into a 9 x 13-inch pan. Bake in moderate oven for 35 minutes.Icing:8 Tbsp. brown sugar5 Tbsp. cream2 Tbsp. butter1/2 c. chopped nuts Combine sugar, cream and butter. Boil for 3 minutes. Spread on cake and cover with chopped nuts.
