  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • eggs - 3 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 Tbsp
  • flour - 4 c
  • water - 1/2 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1 c
  • nutmeats - 1 c
  • dates - 1 lb
  • sugar 1 c - 2 c

How to make date pinwheels:

Cut dates in pieces; cook with 1/2 cup sugar, water and nutmeats until thickened. Cool. Meanwhile, blend shortening with sugars. Add beaten eggs, vanilla and dry ingredients, which have been sifted together. Roll dough 1/2 to 1/4 inch thickness and spread with filling. Roll like jelly roll and store in refrigerator 4 hours. Slice and bake at 400° for 8 minutes.
