How to make apple cobbler:
Melt butter in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish or cake pan. In a saucepan, heat sugar and water until sugar melts. Cut shortening into flour until particles are fine. Add milk and stir only until the dough leaves the sides of the bowl. Turn out onto lightly floured surface and knead just until smooth. Roll dough into a large rectangle about 1/4-inch thick.Sprinkle cinnamon over the apples. Sprinkle apples evenly over the dough. Roll up the dough like a jelly roll. Dampen edges with a little water and seal. Slice dough into about 16 slices, 1/2-inch thick. Place slices into the dish with the melted butter. Pour the sugar syrup (which looks like too much, by will be absorbed) carefully around the rolls. Bake at 350° for 1 hour. Serves 8.
