Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- cinnamon - 1/4 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- baking powder - 1/2 tsp
- margarine - 1 c
- beaten egg yolks - 2 item
- slightly beaten egg white - 1 item
- medium apples, shredded - 4 item
How to make apple bars:
Combine the 2 cups flour, the 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder and salt; cut in butter until crumbs are the size of peas. Stir in egg yolks; divide mixture in half. Press 1/2 over bottom of a 9 x 13-inch pan. Combine apples, remaining sugar, flour and cinnamon and arrange over dough. Crumble remaining dough over apples; brush egg whites over all. Bake at 350° for 40 minutes. Cool; drizzle thin powdered sugar icing over top; cut in bars. Makes 4 dozen.Recipe categories: Desserts, Cookie and brownie, Bar cookie.
