Shrimp and okra gumbo
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 2 tsp
- butter - 1/4 c
- water - 2 c
- all-purpose flour - 1/4 c
- Worcestershire sauce - 1/2 tsp
- cans chicken broth - 2 3/4
- cloves garlic - 2 item
- olive oil - 2 Tbsp
- hot cooked rice - 1 item
- hot pepper sauce - 1/4 tsp
- bay leaves - 2 item
- diced onions - 2 c
- green peppers - 2 item
- canned tomatoes - 1 lb
- fresh okra - 1 lb
- thyme, crumbled - 1/4 tsp
- fresh shrimp or 1 10 oz - 1 lb
How to make shrimp and okra gumbo:
Wash and dry okra. Cut in 1/2-inch slices. Heat olive oil and butter in heavy saucepan. Saute okra, onion, garlic and green pepper for 3 or 4 minutes, stirring frequently. Sprinkle with flour. Stir until flour becomes golden brown. Add tomatoes, chicken broth, water, bay leaves, thyme, hot pepper sauce, Worcestershire sauce and salt. Cover, boil and simmer 45 minutes. Add shrimp and cook 10 minutes more. Ladle gumbo over rice.Recipe categories: Main dish, Gumbo, Stew.
