Ingredients/Components
- milk - 3 Tbsp
- butter - 3 Tbsp
- vegetable oil
- salt and pepper to taste - 1 item
- tomato paste - 1 Tbsp
- chopped parsley - 1 Tbsp
- large onion, chopped - 1 item
- garlic clove, crushed - 1 item
- cup Worcestershire sauce - 1/4 item
- small red pepper, finely chopped - 1 item
- lean ground lamb - 1 lb
- 1/4 cup chicken stock or beef stock - 1 item
- 1/4 cup mushrooms, sliced - 1 item
- Add the onion, red pepper and garlic
How to make shepherds pie:
Heat oil in pan. Add the onion, red pepper and garlic. Saut?© until softened. Add the meat and saut?© until browned. If desired, transfer the cooked mixture to a food processor and chop for a few seconds on the pulse setting. Transfer the meat to a saucepan and add the stock, parsley, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce. Add mushrooms. Cook over medium heat for about 20 minutes.Mashed Potatoes:2 pounds potatoes, chopped3 Tbsp. butter3 Tbsp. milk salt and pepper to taste Boil potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain and mash with 2/3 of the butter and milk. Season to taste. Arrange the meat in large dish, cover with the mashed potatoes and dot the topping with the remaining butter. Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes.Variation: To make cottage pie, replace the lamb with ground beef. Top with 2 lb. mashed rutabaga or a combination of mashed potatoes and rutabaga.
