  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • stick margarine - 1/2 item
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • vinegar - 1 tsp
  • plain flour
  • box confectioners sugar - 1 item
  • red food coloring - 2 oz
  • Crisco oil - 2 c
  • Add eggs and beat well
  • pecans as desired - 1 item

How to make red velvet cake:

Cream sugar and oil; add vinegar and food coloring. Add eggs and beat well. Sift dry ingredients together. Add vanilla and then add to mixture. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Beat well. Bake cake in two or three greased and floured, round pans at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes or until done.Red Velvet Icing:8 oz. cream cheese1 box confectioners sugar1 tsp. vanilla1/2 stick margarine pecans as desired Cream sugar, margarine and cream cheese. Add vanilla. Spread between layers and sprinkle with nuts.
