Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- butter - 1 c
- cocoa - 1 Tbsp
- buttermilk or sour milk - 1 c
- Add eggs
- shortening or oleo - 1/2 c
- baking soda mixed with 1 Tbsp - 1 tsp
- red food coloring no kidding! - 2 oz
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs. Beat well. Sift dry ingredients. Add alternately to sugar mixture with buttermilk. Add coloring and vanilla. Add soda/vinegar mixture and stir only to blend. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.Frosting:1 c. milk1 c. sugar1/4 tsp. salt1/4 c. flour1 c. butter2 tsp. vanilla Mix flour, salt and milk until well blended. Cook over medium heat until thick.
