Ingredients/Components

  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • granulated sugar - 1 item
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • baking soda - 2 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • shortening - 3/4 c
  • all-purpose flour
  • molasses - 1/4 c
  • ginger - 1 tsp
  • brown sugar, packed - 1 c
  • cloves - 1/2 tsp

How to make gingersnaps:

Mix shortening, brown sugar, egg and molasses. Blend in remaining ingredients, except granulated sugar. Cover and chill 1 hour.

Heat oven to 375°. Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls. Dip tops in granulated sugar. Place sugar side up 3-inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes. Immediately remove from baking sheet. Yields 4 dozen cookies.
