Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • chopped pecans - 1 c
  • pkg - 1 oz
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • butter - 1 c
  • evaporated milk - 1 c
  • egg yolks - 4 item
  • coconut
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • boiling water - 1/2 c
  • all-purpose flour
  • egg whites, stiffly beaten - 4 item

How to make german chocolate cake:

Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add yolks, 1 at a time, beating well after each. Blend in vanilla and chocolate. Sift flour with soda and salt. Add alternately with buttermilk. Fold in beaten whites. Pour in 3 (9-inch) pans lined on bottoms with paper. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.

Frosting: Combine milk, sugar, slightly beaten egg yolks, butter and vanilla. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened, about 12 minutes. Add coconut and chopped pecans. Cool until thick enough to spread.
