Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • milk - 2/3 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 2/3 c
  • vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • shortening - 1 c
  • chili powder - 1 Tbsp
  • medium onions, chopped fine - 3 item
  • pinch of pepper - 1 item
  • clove garlic, chopped fine - 1 item
  • Add milk to vinegar
  • large tomato, chopped fine - 1 item
  • olives with pimento - 30 item

How to make empanadas:

Cut shortening into flour. Add milk to vinegar. Add liquids and salt to flour mixture. Blend dough.Filling:1/2 lb. finely ground round steak3 medium onions, chopped fine1 large tomato, chopped fine1 clove garlic, chopped fine30 olives with pimento pinch of pepper1 Tbsp. flour1 tsp. sugar1 Tbsp. chili powder1 tsp. salt Fry vegetables in a little salad oil. Cook well. Add chopped steak and seasonings. Cook until browned. Cool. Sauce will be thick. Roll out dough thinly. Cut in 4-inch circles. (I use a large jar lid.) Place 1 teaspoon filling and 1/2 olive on each round and fold over. Crimp edges; puncture top with fork. (May be frozen at this point.) Bake on cookie sheet at 425° for 15 to 18 minutes. Makes 54. Serve hot.
