  • salt - 1 c
  • water
  • vinegar - 1 qt
  • alum - 1 item
  • garlic - 1 item
  • fresh dill - 2 lb
  • bushel pickle cucumbers - 1/2 item

How to make dill pickles:

Brine Mix:3 qt. water1 c. salt1 qt. vinegar2 lb. fresh dill alum garlic Repeat brine mix as needed. Clean and sterilize quart jars. Wash pickles. In a large pot, add water, salt and vinegar. Bring to a boil, then set aside. In quart jars, put 2 to 4 cloves of garlic and 3 pieces of dill. Put cucumbers in; add 1/2 teaspoon of alum over the top of each jar. Pour water mix up to 1-inch of the jar with wooden spoon. Take out air bubbles and put lids on.

In a stock pot, put quart jars in boiling water. Jars should have water 1/2-inch over top of jar. Keep in for 20 minutes. Keep in cool, dry place for 1 month.
