Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 5 c
- salt - 1/3 c
- vinegar - 3 c
- cloves garlic - 3 item
- celery seed
- medium onions - 6 item
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- green peppers - 2 item
- turmeric
- cucumbers - 4 qt
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Slice cucumbers thin. Chop onions, peppers, and garlic thin. Add to cucumbers. Mix salt in the cucumber, onions, peppers, and garlic and add ice. Mix well with hands. Leave on ice for 3 hours.Mix vinegar, celery seed, sugar, turmeric, and mustard seed in a separate pot. Drain all water and ice from cucumbers. Add to vinegar mixture. Bring to a boil. As soon as boiling begins, put in jars and seal.
