Ingredients/Components
- sour cream - 12 oz
- frozen peas - 1 pkg
- hard-boiled eggs, chopped - 5 item
- Miracle Whip salad dressing - 2 c
- chopped tomatoes - 2 c
- bunch green onions, chopped - 1 item
- fresh spinach
- head lettuce - 1 item
- mayonnaise not salad dressing - 12 oz
- mild Cheddar cheese, cubed - 4 oz
- red onion rings - 1 c
- fried bacon, crumbled - 1 lb
- fresh mushroom slices - 2 c
- grated Swiss cheese or sharp Cheddar - 2 c
- Blue cheese optional
- Top with torn fresh spinach
How to make best layered salad:
Into a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan, tear washed lettuce into bite-size pieces. Top with torn fresh spinach. Crumble fried bacon on second layer. Separate frozen peas and place on top of bacon. Chop green onions on top of peas (1 cup red onion rings may be substituted). Sprinkle cheese evenly over previous layer. Place chopped hard-cooked eggs over cheese. Combine sour cream, mayonnaise and crumbled blue cheese and spread over top. Chill overnight before serving. Cut into squares for serving.Note: Many persons prefer to substitute a can of drained, sliced water chestnuts for fresh spinach.Variation:1 head shredded lettuce2 c. chopped tomatoes2 c. fresh mushroom slices1 pkg. frozen peas4 oz. mild Cheddar cheese, cubed1 c. red onion rings2 c. Miracle Whip salad dressing Garnish with bacon and/or shredded cheese, if desired, and place a red radish on top in the center.
