- salt and pepper to taste - 1 item
- cans tomato sauce - 2 oz
- onion, chopped - 1 item
- carrots, sliced - 2 item
- can kidney beans - 1 item
- frozen lima beans - 1 pkg
- ham hocks - 1 1
- Portuguese sausage - 1 pkg
- potatoes, cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes - 3 item
- fresh string beans, cut into 1-inch sections - 1 pkg
- bunch watercress, cut into 3-inch sections optional - 1 item
How to make bean soup:
Boil ham hocks in water in a large (10-quart or larger) pot until meat falls off the bone (about 3 to 4 hours). Add remaining ingredients except watercress and cook for an additional hour.
