Apple cranberry pie
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- water - 1/4 c
- grated orange peel - 2 tsp
- cranberries - 2 c
- egg white, beaten - 1 item
- quick cooking tapioca - 1/3 c
- additional sugar - 1 item
- sliced, peeled apples - 3 c
- pastry for double-crust pie - 1 item
How to make apple cranberry pie:
In a saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, tapioca, water and orange peel. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat and stir in apples. Set saucepan in a pan of cold water for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Line pie plate with bottom pastry. Pour filling into crust. Top with remaining pastry or a lattice crust. If using a full crust, cut a few slits in top. Beat egg white and water until foamy and brush over top pastry. Sprinkle with additional sugar. Bake at 375° for 45 to 55 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Cool. Yields 6 to 8 servings.Recipe categories: Desserts, Pie, Pies and tarts.
