Whole wheat bread
Ingredients/Components
- milk - 2 c
- salt - 2 tsp
- brown sugar, packed - 1/2 c
- melted shortening - 2 Tbsp
- yeast - 2 pkg
- lukewarm water - 2/3 c
- unsifted whole wheat flour
How to make whole wheat bread:
Scald milk; add brown sugar and salt; stir until dissolved. Let milk stand until lukewarm. Soak yeast in lukewarm water for 10 minutes. Stir lukewarm milk into yeast; pour in three cups of flour and melted shortening and mix. Work in remaining flour. Knead with all-purpose flour. Place in greased bowl, let rise until double in bulk. Dump on board and divide in half. Let rest 5 or 10 minutes. Bake at 375°. Makes 2 loaves.Recipe categories: Breads, Low cholesterol, Yeast breads.
