  • sugar - 6 Tbsp
  • milk - 2 c
  • salt - 5 tsp
  • shortening - 12 Tbsp
  • warm water - 2 c
  • yeast - 2 pkg
  • flour about - 12 c

How to make white bread:

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add milk, sugar, salt and shortening. Add 6 cups of flour and beat well. Add about 6 cups flour until stiff. Knead well on floured board, adding more flour if it sticks to board.

Raise until double in bulk, about 1 hour. Punch down. Let rest 15 to 20 minutes. Shape into 4 loaves. Put into bread pans. Let rise in bread pans for 1 hour. Bake at 400° for 50 minutes. Turn out onto racks to cool.
