White bread
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 tsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour
- butter - 3 Tbsp
- warm water - 1 c
- cornmeal - 1 item
- active dry yeast - 1 pkg
- milk, scalded - 1 c
How to make white bread:
Scald milk; stir in sugar, salt and butter and cool to lukewarm. Measure warm water into large warm bowl. Sprinkle in yeast; stir until dissolved. Stir in lukewarm milk mixture; add 3 cups flour. beat until smooth. Add enough flour to make a soft dough.Turn out onto floured board; knead for 2 minutes or until dough can be formed into a ball. Place in greased bowl; grease top and cover. Let rise until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours. Punch down; divide in half. Shape into 2 loaves; roll each loaf in corn meal. Place in two greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2-inch loaf pans. Cover and let rise for another 1 1/2 hours. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Remove from baking pans and cool on wire racks.
