Walnut torte
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- vanilla - 1/2 tsp
- milk - 1/3 c
- flour - 1 c
- egg yolks - 4 item
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- heavy cream
- shortening - 1/2 c
- dash of salt - 1 item
- chopped walnuts
- cream of tartar - 1/8 tsp
- stiffly beaten egg whites - 4 item
- sifted cocoa
How to make walnut torte:
Meringue:3/4 c. chopped walnuts4 stiffly beaten egg whites1/8 tsp. cream of tartar1 c. sugar Chocolate Whip:1/3 c. sifted cocoa3/4 c. sugar1 1/2 c. heavy cream Cream shortening and sugar; add vanilla and egg yolks one at a time, beating fluffy after each. Add flour, sifted with salt and baking powder alternately with milk. Pour into 2 greased 8-inch cake pans. Spread with walnut meringue.Meringue: Stiffly beat egg whites; add cream of tartar mixed with sugar. Fold in chopped walnuts. Bake in slow oven (300°) for 1 hour.
Combine cocoa, sugar and heavy cream. Let stand 1 hour in refrigerator. Beat stiff. Put cooled layers together with Chocolate Whip and frost torte. Garnish with walnut halves.
