  • sugar - 2 c
  • cream cheese - 8 oz
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • butter - 1/2 c
  • eggs, separated - 5 item
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • flaked coconut - 1 c
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • powdered sugar - 1 lb
  • cream of tartar - 1/2 tsp
  • black walnuts, chopped
  • Add egg yolks; beat well

How to make walnut cake:

Cream butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks; beat well. Combine buttermilk and baking soda; stir until baking soda is dissolved. Add flour to creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk and beginning and ending with flour. Add vanilla, black walnuts and coconut. Add cream of tartar to egg whites; beat until stiff. Fold into batter. Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 9-inch pans. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.Cream Frosting:1 stick margarine8 oz. cream cheese1 lb. powdered sugar1 tsp. vanilla Cream margarine and cream cheese together until well blended. Beat in vanilla and powdered sugar. Spread over cold cake. Decorate top with walnuts and coconut.
