  • granulated sugar - 1/2 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • soda - 1/2 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • chopped nuts optional - 1 c
  • hot water - 2 4
  • sifted confectioners sugar - 2 c
  • brown sugar, packed - 1 c
  • maple flavoring - 1 Tbsp
  • commercial sour cream - 1 c
  • Stir in sour cream and vanilla

How to make vermont maple cookies:

Mix shortening, sugars and eggs thoroughly. Stir in sour cream and vanilla. Measure flour. Stir together flour, soda and salt. Blend in. Mix in nuts. Chill dough if soft. Heat oven to 375°. Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough about 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets. Bake about 10 minutes or until almost no imprint remains when touched lightly. Spread with Maple Butter Glaze.Maple Butter Glaze:1/2 c. butter2 c. sifted confectioners sugar2 tsp. maple flavoring2 to 4 Tbsp. hot water Heat butter until golden brown. Blend in confectioners sugar and maple flavoring. Stir in hot water until icing spreads smoothly.
