Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • water - 3 c
  • garlic powder - 1 tsp
  • pepper - 1 tsp
  • chili powder - 1 Tbsp
  • ground cumin - 1 tsp
  • large onion, chopped - 1 item
  • slices bacon - 6 item
  • can tomatoes, undrained - 1 oz
  • can kidney beans, undrained - 1 oz
  • ground venison or ground beef - 2 lb

How to make venison chili:

Cook bacon in Dutch oven until crisp; remove bacon with a slotted spoon, reserving drippings in Dutch oven. Set bacon aside. Add venison or ground beef and onion to Dutch oven. Cook over medium heat until meat is browned, stirring to crumble. Drain off pan drippings. Add bacon, water and next 6 ingredients. Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Add beans. Cover and cook an additional 30 minutes. Yield: 2 1/2 quarts.
