Ingredients/Components

  • unsweetened chocolate - 3 sq
  • flour - 2 c
  • baking soda - 2 tsp
  • butter or margarine - 1/2 c
  • light brown sugar
  • eggs - 3 item
  • vanilla
  • sour cream - 1 c
  • boiling water - 1 c
  • Prepare 2 9-inch layer cake pans by lightly spraying with cooking spray
  • confectioners sugar - 1 lb
  • milk - 1/2 c

How to make ultimate chocolate cake:

Melt the chocolate; allow to cool. Prepare 2 (9-inch) layer cake pans by lightly spraying with cooking spray. Place a circle of waxed paper in the bottom of each pan and lightly spray again over the waxed paper.

In mixing bowl, beat butter or margarine until soft. Add brown sugar and eggs. Beat at high speed 5 minutes until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla and cooled, melted chocolate. Combine dry ingredients and add alternately with sour cream. Stir in boiling water. Batter will be thin.

Pour immediately into prepared pans. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes. Cool on wire rack for 10 minutes before turning out of pans. Cool completely before frosting.Ultimate Chocolate Frosting:4 sq. unsweetened chocolate1/2 c. butter or margarine1 lb. confectioners sugar1/2 c. milk2 tsp. vanilla Melt butter and chocolate together. Combine sugar, milk and vanilla in a medium-sized bowl. Stir until smooth. Add chocolate mixture. Set bowl in a pan of ice and water. Beat with a wooden spoon until frosting is thick enough to spread and hold its shape.
