How to make treasure chest bars:

Sift first 3 ingredients together and set aside. Add brown sugar, sugar and butter or margarine. Cream these ingredients thoroughly; blend in eggs. Beat well after each addition. Add vanilla and beat well. Now add dry ingredients alternately with milk; begin and end with dry ingredients. Blend well after each addition. Stir in nuts, chocolate bits and cherries. Turn into 13 x 9-inch or two 8 x 8-inch pans, greased and floured on bottom and bake at 325° for 25 to 30 minutes. Frost warm. Cool to serve. Cut into squares.

For nuts, I usually use walnuts or pecans instead of salted nuts, only because I have them in. I have also mixed semi-sweet and milk chocolate bits with peanut butter bits to make a cup.Brown Butter Frosting:1/2 c. butter2 c. sifted confectioners sugar1 tsp. vanilla2 Tbsp. milk Brown butter over medium heat until deep brown.
