Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • water
  • vegetable oil - 2 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/8 tsp
  • Worcestershire sauce - 2 tsp
  • chili powder - 1 tsp
  • shredded Cheddar cheese - 1/2 c
  • small onion, chopped - 1 item
  • tomato juice
  • ground cumin - 1 tsp
  • cloves garlic, crushed - 2 item
  • can condensed beef bouillon - 1 1/2
  • can chopped green chilies, drained - 1 oz
  • can condensed chicken broth - 1 1/2
  • bottled steak sauce - 2 Tbsp
  • peeled and chopped tomatoes - 1 c
  • corn tortillas, cut in strips 2-inches long

How to make tortilla soup:

Saute onion, chilies and garlic in oil until soft. Add tomatoes, bouillon, chicken broth, water, tomato juice, cumin, chili powder, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce and steak sauce. Bring soup to boil; lower heat and simmer, covered, 1 hour. Put tortilla strips in bottom of bowl. Spoon on soup. Sprinkle with cheese.
