Ingredients/Components

  • green onions, sliced - 4 item
  • chili powder - 1 Tbsp
  • chicken broth - 1 c
  • ground cumin - 1 tsp
  • tortilla chips - 1 item
  • beef broth - 1 c
  • Monterey Jack cheese - 1 item
  • stewed tomatoes with juice - 1 c
  • or 3 stalks celery - 2 item
  • boneless chicken breast - 1 item
  • carrots, sliced thinly - 2 item
  • small can chopped chilies, mild - 1 item
  • salsa, hot or mild - 8 oz

How to make tortilla soup:

In a saucepan saute the first four ingredients in a small amount of oil. Add the next seven ingredients and cook for at least half an hour or as long as you like. When serving, shred Monterey Jack cheese and tortilla chips, broken into small pieces, into each bowl.
