Tomato sauce
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 tsp
- salt
- water - 1/2 c
- oil - 1/4 c
- pepper - 1/4 tsp
- chopped celery - 1/2 c
- cloves garlic, minced - 2 item
- ground beef - 2 lb
- basil - 1 tsp
- chopped parsley - 1/4 c
- bay leaves - 2 item
- medium onions, chopped - 2 item
- 2 cans tomatoes
How to make tomato sauce:
Heat oil in a large kettle or Dutch oven. Add onions and garlic; saute 5 minutes. Add the ground beef; cook until brown, breaking the meat up with a fork until it cooks. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then cook over low heat until it is thick and rich, 45 minutes to an hour. Remove the bay leaves; skim off the fat. This makes about 10 cups, plenty for 2 hearty family dishes. It freezes well.Recipe categories: Sauces, Condiments, etc., Tomato.
