  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • packed brown sugar - 1 c
  • butter or margarine - 1 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour
  • egg - 1 item
  • nuts optional - 1 c
  • chocolate chips, melted - 1/2 lb

How to make toffee squares:

In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar well. Add egg and beat. Add vanilla. Stir. Add flour and salt. Mix. Spread in ungreased 9 x 13-inch cake pan. Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven. Spread with melted chocolate. Sprinkle with nuts. Cut while warm into bars.
