Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • water - 1 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 3 Tbsp
  • eggs, beaten - 2 item
  • Crisco - 1/2 c
  • box powdered sugar - 1 item
  • stick oleo - 1 item
  • milk sweet - 6 Tbsp
  • sour or buttermilk * - 1/2 c
  • Sift flour, measure and resift with sugar and salt
  • chopped pecans I use whole cup - 1/2 c

How to make texas sheet cake:

*If no sour milk, use 1 tablespoon vinegar in sweet milk.

Sift flour, measure and resift with sugar and salt. In pan, put oleo, shortening, water and cocoa. Bring to a boil and pour over flour and sugar mixture. Stir. In another bowl, beat eggs, soda, milk and vanilla. Add to hot mixture and mix well. Bake in a 15 1/2 x 19 1/2 x 1-inch pan for 20 minutes at 350°. Start making icing 5 minutes before cake is done.Icing:1 stick oleo6 Tbsp. milk (sweet)1/2 c. chopped pecans (I use whole cup)3 Tbsp. cocoa1 box powdered sugar1 tsp. vanilla Mix oleo, cocoa and milk in pan. Heat but do not boil. Remove and add sugar, nuts and vanilla. Mix well and pour on cake as soon as it is removed from oven.
