  • sugar - 2 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 1/4 c
  • cocoa - 1/2 c
  • buttermilk - 1/2 c
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • all-purpose flour - 2 c
  • oleo - 1/2 c
  • unsifted powdered sugar
  • strong brewed coffee or water - 1 c
  • In heavy saucepan, combine oleo, shortening, coffee or water and cocoa

How to make texas brownies:

In large mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar. In heavy saucepan, combine oleo, shortening, coffee or water and cocoa. Stir and heat to boiling. Pour boiling mixture over flour and sugar in the bowl. Add buttermilk, eggs, soda and vanilla. Mix well, using wooden spoon or high speed on electric mixer. Pour into well greased and floured 17 1/2 x 11-inch jellyroll pan. Bake at 400° for 20 minutes or until brownies test done in center.Frosting:1/2 c. oleo2 Tbsp. cocoa1/4 c. milk3 1/2 c. unsifted powdered sugar1 tsp. vanilla Prepare frosting while brownies bake.

In saucepan, combine oleo, cocoa and milk. Heat to boiling. Mix in powdered sugar and vanilla until frosting is smooth. Pour warm frosting over brownies as soon as you take them out of the oven; cool. Cut into 48 bars.
