Tempura



Ingredients/Components
- eggs - 2 item
- salt - 2 tsp
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- white pepper - 1 tsp
- cup vegetable oil - 1/4 item
- cups cold water - 2 item
- cups sifted, all-purpose flour - 2 item
- cup cornstarch - 1 item
How to make tempura:
In a large bowl, combine ingredients and mix until smooth. Let stand for 15 minutes.Use to fry shrimp-peeled, deveined and butterflied, or thinly slice chicken. Also great with vegetables including: cauliflowerets, eggplant, onions, green peppers and sweet potato. Heat oil in deep fryer to 350°F. If items are watery, sprinkle them with a little flour before coating. Dip items in batter and coat thoroughly, allowing excess batter to drop into bowl. Fry a few pieces at a time until golden brown, 2-3 minutes. Check to make sure meat items are thoroughly cooked.
Great as finger foods or for use in oriental dishes. Serve with you favorite cocktail or hot sauce.
