  • ground beef - 1 lb
  • green pepper - 1 c
  • can corn - 1 item
  • sugar - 1 Tbsp
  • chili powder - 3 tsp
  • shredded cheese - 6 oz
  • chopped onion - 1 c
  • cans tomato sauce - 2 oz
  • garlic salt - 1/2 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • dash of pepper - 1 item
  • yellow cornmeal
  • cold water - 2 c
  • butter - 1 Tbsp

How to make tamale pie:

Topping:3/4 c. yellow cornmeal2 c. cold water1/8 tsp. salt1 Tbsp. butter Cook meat, onion, and green pepper in a large skillet until meat is lightly browned and vegetables are tender. Stir in tomato sauce, corn, garlic, sugar, salt, chili powder, and pepper. Simmer 20 to 25 minutes. Add cheese; stir until melted. Put in greased dish. Make cornmeal topping.

Topping: Stir cornmeal and 1/2 teaspoon salt into cold water. Cook and stir until thick. Add butter; mix well. Spoon over hot meat mixture. Bake at 350° for about 40 minutes.
