Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 1/4 c
  • shortening - 2 Tbsp
  • dash of pepper - 1 item
  • medium onion, finely chopped - 1 item
  • green pepper, finely chopped - 1/2 item
  • can mushroom pieces - 1 oz
  • round steak, cut 1-inch thick - 2 lb
  • tomato canned or fresh - 1 c

How to make swiss steak:

Combine flour with salt and pepper and pound into meat. In preheated skillet at 325°, melt shortening. Brown meat on both sides. Add remaining ingredients. Reduce heat to 225°. Cook, uncovered, for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Serve with vegetable gravy. Makes 6 servings.
