Sweet rolls
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- eggs - 4 item
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 8 9
- shortening - 3/4 c
- yeast - 2 pkg
- very warm water - 1/2 c
- milk, scalded and cooled - 2 c
How to make sweet rolls:
Scald milk and add sugar and salt in right away (helps cool milk). In a large glass, combine yeast, water and sugar. Let set 5 minutes at least.Combine the milk mixture and yeast mixture when milk mixture has cooled and yeast has worked. Blend with mixer 2 1/2 to 3 cups flour to make a sponge. Cover and let rise until double.
While rising, beat 4 eggs. Melt and cool shortening. Mix and stir into dough. When risen and bubbly, stir in an additional 5 1/2 to 6 cups flour. Should be a little sticky but able to handle with greased fingers. Form into rolls and place on greased sheets. Let rise again and bake at 350° for 15 to 20 minutes.
