Sweet and sour tofu
Ingredients/Components
- pkg - 1 oz
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 1/3 c
- cornstarch
- eggs, beaten - 2 item
- firmly packed brown sugar - 1/2 c
- cider vinegar - 1/3 c
- ground ginger - 1 tsp
- diced onion - 1/2 c
- diced green pepper - 1/2 c
- soy sauce
- cloves garlic - 2 item
- pineapple juice - 1 c
- vegetable oil for deep frying - 1 item
- small tomato, cut in wedges - 1 item
How to make sweet and sour tofu:
Drain tofu and cut into 1-inch cubes. Combine flour, eggs and salt. Mix well. Dip each tofu cube in batter. Deep fat fry in oil until golden brown. Drain and keep warm in oven.In 1 tablespoon oil, saute onion and garlic. Add pineapple juice, brown sugar, vinegar, cornstarch, soy sauce and ginger. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened and translucent. Add tomato and green pepper. Heat thoroughly. Pour sauce over tofu before serving.
