Sweet and sour meatballs
Ingredients/Components
- packed brown sugar - 1/2 c
- milk - 1/4 c
- salt
- cornstarch
- egg - 1 item
- vinegar - 1/3 c
- shortening - 1 Tbsp
- ginger - 1/8 tsp
- soy sauce - 1 Tbsp
- chopped green pepper - 1/3 c
- ground beef
- cracker crumbs - 2/3 c
- minced onion - 1/3 c
- can pineapple tidbits, drained reserve syrup - 1 1/2
How to make sweet and sour meatballs:
Sweet and Sour Sauce:2 Tbsp. cornstarch1 (13 1/2 oz.) can pineapple tidbits, drained (reserve syrup)1/3 c. vinegar1/3 c. chopped green pepper1/2 c. packed brown sugar1 Tbsp. soy sauce Mix all meatball ingredients except shortening thoroughly. Shape into 1-inch balls. Melt shortening in skillet and brown meatballs. Remove meatballs and pour fat from skillet. Set meatballs aside.Sweet and Sour Sauce: Mix cornstarch and sugar. Stir in reserved pineapple syrup, vinegar and soy sauce until smooth. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir for 1 minute. Add meatballs, pineapple and green pepper. Heat through. Makes about 40 (1-inch) meatballs.
