  • sugar - 1/4 c
  • shortening
  • molasses - 1/4 c
  • rye flour - 3 c
  • lukewarm water - 3 c
  • envelope yeast - 1 item
  • white flour as needed - 1 item

How to make swedish rye bread:

Mix together the first five ingredients; let it rise until double in size. Add salt and shortening; mix together and add enough white flour to make a soft dough (not sticky or too stiff). Let rise until double in bulk. Put in two loaf pans; let rise until almost double. Bake at 350° for 55 minutes to one hour.
