Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 3/4 c
  • cinnamon - 2 tsp
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 1/2 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • chopped nuts - 1/2 c
  • flour - 2 Tbsp
  • baking powder - 3 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • brown sugar, packed
  • butter, melted - 2 Tbsp
  • Gold Medal flour, sifted before measuring
  • shortening not the liquid - 1/2 c

How to make streusel-filled coffee cake:

Streusel Filling and Topping:1/2 c. brown sugar, packed2 Tbsp. flour2 tsp. cinnamon2 Tbsp. butter, melted1/2 c. chopped nuts Sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together. Cut in shortening. Blend in well beaten egg, mixed with milk and vanilla. Beat just enough to mix well.

Pour half the batter into a well-greased and floured pan. Sprinkle with half the streusel mixture. Add remaining batter and sprinkle remaining streusel over top. Bake 25 minutes at 275°. Bake at 350° if using glass pan. Serve hot.

You can get this all ready the night before, except the milk and egg. It does not take too long to finish. The batter is a little thick to spread. Milk and egg should be at room temperature for best results.
