Strawberry shortcakes
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- milk - 3/4 c
- sweetened whipped cream - 1 item
- baking powder - 3 tsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- all-purpose flour - 2 c
- margarine or butter, softened - 1 item
- strawberries, sliced - 1 qt
How to make strawberry shortcakes:
Mix strawberries with 1 cup sugar. Let stand for 1 hour.Heat oven to 450°. Cut shortening into flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, baking powder and salt until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in milk, just until blended. Gently smooth dough into a ball on lightly floured cloth-covered board. Knead 20 to 25 times. Roll to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out 2-inch rounds. Place 2-inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
When done, split crosswise and spread with margarine. Fill with strawberries, put on top and cover the top with whipped cream.
