leaf lettuce - 1 item
crushed pretzels - 2 c
mayonnaise optional - 1 item

How to make strawberry pretzel salad:

Combine first 3 ingredients. Press into a lightly greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish. Bake at 250° for 10 minutes. Let cool.

Beat the cream cheese at medium speed with a mixer until light and fluffy. Add 1/3 cup sugar, mixing until well blended. Fold in whipped topping and carefully spread over pretzel crust.

Combine gelatin and boiling water in a bowl, stirring 2 minutes or until dissolved. Add cold water and chill until mixture is the consistency of unbeaten egg white. Stir in strawberries. Pour over cream cheese layer. Refrigerate until firm. Cut into squares. Serve on lettuce leaves and dollop with mayonnaise. Yields 15 servings.
