Strawberry jam
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 4 c
- water - 3/4 c
- box Sure-Jell - 1 item
- ripe strawberries, mashed - 1 qt
How to make strawberry jam:
You will need plastic storage containers.Measure 2 cups mashed strawberries into large bowl. Stir in sugar. Let stand 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Bring water and Sure-Jell to boil in small saucepan on high heat, stirring constantly. Continue boiling and stirring for 1 minute. Stir into fruit mixture in bowl. Stir for 3 minutes or sugar is completely dissolved. Fill containers to within 1/2-inch from top. Cover with lids. Let stand at room temperature for 24 hours. Jam is ready to use. Freeze the rest. Don't ever double recipe as it won't set. I tried doubling recipe and it didn't set so I had to use it as ice cream syrup. This tastes like fresh strawberry jam even after it has been frozen for a year.
